The Trunk style usually incorporates a pouched frontal area and a slimmed or tapered sides and back area. It does not contain a fly front. The leg length is usually shorter and the rise from the crotch area to the waist band is shorter as well. Although depending on the designer this may vary a lot.
The trunk design is also used in compression shorts or other similar athletic wear. Some designs incorporate a pouched frontal area, where a Dude can place a Hard Cup for extra protection when playing sports. The Shock Doctor or Under Armour brands provide such designs. The athletic style or cut in this underwear offers also a longer leg length. One of the issues with wearing the boxer brief or trunk is that the material which covers the upper thigh leg area, may “ride up” or bunch the fabric towards the waist line. This can lead to an uncomfortable fit. Many designers have found workarounds to this situation. Some use a better elastic in the leg-seam, others taper the leg opening so it is more form-fitting, by the type of material used to create the garment. Still others using a much longer length to almost the mid-thigh or even knee range. This option is called the bicycle style.
The basic Trunk cut offers a great series of versatile uses. It also comes in a variety of fabric choices from cotton jersey, to microfiber. From plain white, black and grey to prints and stripes. From a plain no pouch front to a fully functional pouched crotch area.
